Our technical definition is constantly varied, functional movements performed at high intensity. What this means to you is, we change our workouts all the time (constanly varied). We teach movements that apply to everyday life (functional movements). The last thing is what sets us apart (high intensity). We go hard and fast!!! Don’t misunderstand hard and fast. We generally spend about 30 minutes at the beginning of every class warming up and learning technique. Technique is of the utmost importance to insure safe movement. Once the movement is performed well, then comes the speed!!!
CrossFit is very difficult, but it can be performed by almost anyone that is willing to WORK HARD. We “scale” the loads and volume according to the persons capability and capacity. This does not mean we make it easy! We simply make it doable.
49 years old....Overweight....Clothes too tight...no energy.....on medication for high blood pressure... and on the verge of more med's for sugar and cholesterol issues. That's where I was prior to July 12th, 2010. That's the day Jason introduced me to his CrossFit workout. I'd seen him come back every work day at lunch physically exhausted, but mentally refreshed and confident. He invited me to give it a try, and it has changed my life. For 20 intense minutes a day, four times a week, Jason educated me on what I could do! He gave me the instruction on how to start to change my life physically, mentally and spiritually. Using the CrossFit exercises, he customized a work out for me to follow, along with a simple diet to help me achieve my goal......GET OFF MY BLOOD PRESSURE MEDS! Four months later at my quarterly health check-up.... My Doctor was BLOWN AWAY! I'd lost 28 lbs; my blood pressure was actually too low. My blood work revealed normal sugar and cholesterol levels. For the first time in over 10 years I was off the pills and in the gym.... It's hard work but Jason made me WANT TO COME BACK every day. He is a great instructor and motivator; you want to do well to please him because he TRULY cares about you. Thanks BAMA (Jason)! You've changed my life for the better MY FRIEND OFF THE PILLS FOREVER! I was mentally and physically drained and out of shape. I had just been through the toughest 5 year stretch of my life. I was having chest pains, dizziness, and just felt awful. My blood pressure was hanging around 160/95, and my doctor was writing me blood pressure prescriptions. I took the pills for two days and felt even worse. It was unbearable. I wanted to start excercising, but being a single parent didn't leave much time for that. I was hoping and praying for something that I could do during my lunch hour at work, and not take any time away from me being at home. That is when Jason, aka "Bama", started talking to me about CrossFit. I have to admit that I was very skeptical. I was wanting to do something during my lunch hour, but a program where alot of the workouts were twenty minutes or less?! I didn't know if this was going to be long enough to get me in shape. I was wrong! Coach Jason and CrossFit has changed me physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. They have truly been a blessing. Jason knows when to push you, how and when to correct you, when to have you stop for a second. He is a great encourager. He genuinely cares about helping people. He wants you to be better in all areas of life. For me, CrossFit is the best fitness program out there. You will have weaknesses, and you will work on them. You will have strengths, and you will get to showcase them. If you put in the effort and intensity, you will get incredible results from the program. It has made working out fun for me. The typical running everyday, or weightlifting everyday, would be mundane and a struggle for me. The variety of exercises, the working out in a group, the camaraderie, the competition, the encouragement, and the challenge make CrossFit enjoyable everyday. And on top of it all, after 10 months of training with Jason and CrossFit, I have leaned out quite a bit, my blood pressure is 105/80 with no meds, and in the best shape of my life!" Andy Riffle
Greetings to all who read this. My name is Bob Burum I am 60 years old now and I have been exercising using the CrossFit method for almost one year now. The importance in what I am about to tell you is this; I have a very rare blood disease called Myastinia Gravis. If you know anything about it you will understand it impairs your brain from communicating with your muscles. The medical community has a few ways of treating this disease because it can be fatal. Although I receive ongoing medical treatments this disease still left me with rapid fatigue. Here is where CrossFit training came into the picture. After receiving approval from my doctor to start a workout program (CrossFit) I have been able to increase my strength and stamina to the point where I rarely feel the effects of this disease and I can lead a 90% normal life. I have only given a brief outline here trying to avoid boring anyone, but I can not emphasize enough the importance of proper physical training!!! You do not need to be physically impaired like I am to benefit from CrossFit and you do not need to compare yourself to others. It is about you becoming better each day. Sure it is hard work, but anything worth having takes effort! Crossfit will benefit you both physically and mentally!!!! God Bless. Bob Burum
I have always had a hard time staying motivated to workout. I had been hearing my friends talk about CrossFit; usually after doing the WOD(workout of the day) and discussing how challenging it was, and there sense of accomplishment after completing it. I finally gave in to my curiosity. I'll tell you it is unlike anything I have ever done before, it was fun, interesting and very challenging!!! It makes you strive to be better each day, you will start keeping track of your times and rounds finished pushing to be faster than the last time. But one great thing is everyday is something new not the same old boring routine. With Jason's (BAMA) direction you will learn proper technique and discipline (no short cuts!), But mostly an upbeat positive get it done atmosphere that pushes you to a place where you did not think was possible!
